Twitch initially partnered with commerce company Xsolla in 2014 to provide alternative payments methods. According to Xsolla, data showed a 'underserved' audience that would likely make more purchases if Bitcoin payments were an option. This could be due to the smaller transaction fees and processing times compared to traditional payment methods. However, Xsolla eventually removed Bitcoin from their service. In 2016, Twitch partnered with Coinbase to reintroduce Bitcoin payments to their service with normal address deposits, which allow users to send Bitcoin without third party intervention.
